Shelby, NC (WNN) – The Walmart on East Dixon Boulevard in Shelby announced Tuesday, February 3, 2026, that drone delivery service is now available at their store.
The service, which began as an idea in 2020, aims to deliver to local customers in under 30 minutes. Walmart has set a goal to expand drone delivery to more than 100 stores across North Carolina. The Walmart in Kings Mountain, located at 1011 Shelby Rd, began offering the service this past December of 2025.
Walmart has partnered with drone delivery companies Wing and Zipline to operate the program. Customers can place orders through Walmart’s website or the Wing and Zipline app to access this service. To qualify, customers must live within a six-mile radius of the selected Walmart store, and orders must weigh 2.1 pounds or less due to drone capacity limits. Note that Walmart+ members receive discounted delivery rates, while non-members pay a $19.99 delivery fee per delivery.

The launch has sparked mixed reactions among local residents. Some view the service as an exciting step forward in technology, while others have raised concerns about safety and privacy as drones fly over neighborhoods.
