Cherryville, NC (WNN) - Cherryville Police Chief Brandon Hunsucker has released a statement on Thursday morning, September 24, 2026, regarding a crisis incident at the Cherryville Walmart located on 2505 Lincolnton Highway that occurred late last night on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
Reports on social media circulated late last night indicating that an individual was located in the automotive department.

"On 9/23/2026, the Cherryville Police Department responded to Walmart, located at 2505 Lincolnton Highway, in reference to an individual experiencing a mental health crisis and causing a self-inflicted injury.
Due to the nature of the incident and to protect the individual's privacy, the Cherryville Police Department will not release the individual's name at this time.
The individual was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a self-inflicted injury that was determined to be non-life-threatening. No other individuals were injured or placed in danger during the incident.
The incident has been investigated, and the matter is considered closed by the Cherryville Police Department."
