Shake Shop Undergoing Exterior Renovations

Posted

Cherryville, NC (WNN)- The Shake Shop, Cherryville's most popular Lotta Burger destination, is currently undergoing renovations.

Owner Kyle Jarrett says that the restaurant's exterior updates are expected to be complete within a couple of weeks.

Updates Long Overdue

"It was tired and rundown," Jarrett said of the decision to renovate. He estimates the last significant updates to the building happened about 25 years ago.

The exterior work is being completed by some of Jarrett's friends. This work follows indoor updates that were likely done around 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. The building is being repainted, as well as the awning, having new sheet metal installed.  Jarrett says that once the temperature rises above 65°, allowing for proper adhesion and drying, they will also repaint the underside of the awning.

When asked if customers would miss the old look, Jarrett said, "I hope not. It's too late now."

Recent Recognition

The renovation comes on the heels of significant recognition for the family-owned establishment. Last year, the Shake Shop won WNN's Lotta Burger Contest, capturing nearly 50% of the votes among eight competing Cherryville restaurants known for the local specialty sandwich.

Jarrett and his son, Josh, operate the restaurant, which has been serving Lotta Burgers since its opening in 1966. The burger features two ground beef patties, tomatoes, white mayonnaise-based coleslaw, cheese, and pickles, all served on a split hoagie roll.

"We try to buy the best of everything," Kyle Jarrett said when interviewed for our Lotta Burger Contest last year. "Every couple of days, we get a delivery. We don't freeze anything."

The Shake Shop previously gained attention in 2017 when it was featured in Our State magazine for its Lotta Burgers.
