Cherryville, NC (WNN) - A fire started early this morning, November 20th, 2025, around 3:00 AM at the Cherryville Tire and Auto Building located at 2552 Lincolnton Hwy, Cherryville, NC 28021. The Gaston County GIS lists George Allen and Sabrina Taylor as the current property owners. According to a press release by the Gaston County Office of Emergency Management and Fire Services, responders from the Crouse, Tryonota, Hugh’s Pond, Ag Center, and Waco Fire Departments, as well as GEMS, Gaston County 911, and GCOEMFS, arrived on scene at 3:10 AM and had the fire contained within 20 minutes.
When speaking with the property owner’s son, who found the fire, he claimed that it originated from a wood stove on the site. He said the smoke was black, and he could barely see, but he still took buckets of water to try to contain the fire. According to him, the responders claimed this helped save the structure, and the damage likely would’ve been worse had he not done so. He also mentioned that he had recently been trying to get the building ready to reopen as a mechanic shop, but had lost many of his tools in the fire. Despite the setback, he plans to continue restoring the building and reopening the auto shop in the future.
As you can see in the photos, most of the damage occurred to the roof of the structure. The fire charred many of the beams and managed to burn through the roof cap. However, the structure is considered safe to enter. At this time, the family is working to clear debris and personal belongings from the building.
