Cleveland County EMS Mourns Loss of Paramedic Ashley Moore after Highway 74 Collision

Cleveland County, NC (WNN) - On Monday, July 6, 2026, Paramedic Ashley Moore lost her life while treating a patient in an ambulance on Highway 74. The vehicle was rear-ended by Jared Logan, a Gastonia resident. He allegedly reached speeds exceeding 100 mph at the time of the crash. Moore lost her life, and one other paramedic was injured.

Logan was appointed a public defender to be formally advised of the charges against him. Prosecution asked the court to hold him without bond due to:

  • A prior record of level II
  • Previous convictions for driving without a license
  • Allegedly driving without a license at the time of the crash
  • Prior convictions for driving while impaired
  • A history of other traffic offenses, including a failure to appear and to pay fines

The judge agreed that, with the alleged offenses, Logan should remain held without bond, and he was charged with the following:

  • DWI
  • Reckless Driving, Wanton Disregard
  • Seat Belt, Driver
  • Second Degree Murder W/O Regard

Ashley Moore 

Moore had served with the Cleveland County EMS for nine years. She was a graduate of NC EMS Leadership II and the EMS Officer Series. She spent her time not only serving as a paramedic but also training others as a field training officer. A service has not yet been officially announced; however, it is likely to occur. We will provide updates on this as more information becomes available.
