Water Line Hit During Fiber Optic Installation in Cherryville

Cherryville, NC (WNN)- A main water line was accidentally hit Thursday afternoon, December 12th, 2024. The incident happened near the intersection of West Church Street (Highway 150) and Self Street in Cherryville, NC, when crews with Ripple Fiber, a fiber optic company, were boring for cable installation. Cherryville Public Works Director Chris King clarified that the line affected was a water line, not a sewer line.

Fiber Crew Hits Water Line During Boring Operation

The incident occurred as Ripple Fiber workers conducted underground boring operations under the highway to lay fiber optic cables. Cherryville Public Works crews were onsite yesterday repairing the damage, and plans to resolve the issue later today. Water service disruptions for some residents occurred for approximately two hours after the incident, and the repair work is not anticipated to cause any long-term inconvenience.

Currently, it is best to avoid Highway 150 near the water line break. As mud and water remain on the road. The wet conditions could create slippery spots. Drivers should use caution or seek alternate routes while crews work to complete the repairs.
