Making Music and Memories: A Summer Stage for Young Talent

Cherryville, NC (WNN) – With school out and summer break in full swing, many parents are on the lookout for fun, meaningful ways to keep their children engaged. One local music program is striking the right note by offering students a creative outlet to pursue a new skill. On Sunday, June 1, 2025, music instructor Ms. Zilla Aldridge and her young protégés took the stage at Mount Zion Baptist Church for a heartwarming summer concert.
The Performances
The concert showcased six talented students, each with their own shining moment. While all of the performers were skilled pianists, a few took it one step further by playing another instrument. Grayson Raines and Reid Wagoner brought out guitars. Riley Wagoner and Mariah Nguyen sang several moving songs. As the concert reached its finale, the audience was treated to a full band performance that ended with a soulful harmonica solo during “I’ll Fly Away’ that impressed everyone in attendance.
This Kid Has Talent
That harmonica solo came from none other than Brantley Nguyen, an eight-year-old musically inclined kid who had already performed solo at the Cherry Blossom Festival earlier this year. Brantley began humming tunes before he could talk. Now he plays six instruments: piano, guitar, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, and yes, he sings too. His confident stage presence and love for performing allowed his talent to shine on stage alongside his friends.
When asked what draws him to music, Brantley simply shrugged and smiled, “I don’t know. It makes me happy.”
A favorite performance of his is when he sings “When I Wake Up to Sleep No More.” And judging by the crowd’s reaction, his music made everyone else happy, too.
Time To Discover A New Passion
His performance served as a powerful reminder of how music can bring joy and confidence to those willing to learn a new instrument. During the long, open days of summer, there is no better time for children to discover a new passion.
For parents seeking new ways to balance enrichment with enjoyment during summer break, music lessons offer a harmonious solution. No matter what instrument you are looking to play, Ms. Aldridge will get you performing.
