Cherryville, NC (WNN) - Stuart W. Cramer handed Cherryville two losses on Friday, February 6, 2026, in Nixon Gym. Winter weather forced some schedule changes for this week and next. Due to no school on Tuesday, the home game against Shelby was postponed until next week. The regularly scheduled Friday evening game was played as planned.
The Lady Storm of Stuart W. Cramer has been a force to be reckoned with for all their opponents this season. They came into Nixon gym leading the Southern Piedmont 2A/3A/4A Conference, having lost only one game overall, a non-conference matchup. The Lady Storm was led by Oshauna Holland with 36 points, bringing her season total to 714 points scored. Lauren Humphrey added 19 points, and Amasia McDowell contributed 12 points. As in most of their games this season, Stuart W. Cramer got off to a fast start, building a huge lead early. The Lady Ironmen were able to score more points in this rematch than in the first meeting between the two, yet still fell short. The Storm would win by 92-24. Stuart W. Cramer improved to 21-1 overall and 14-0 in the conference. In the first matchup, Cherryville was short-handed, and Kate Bookout provided all the offense. Tonight, she had help, as several players who were missing that night have now returned to action. Cherryville was led in this game by Isabelle Robinson with 9 points, Emily Allen and Jenna Anthony each with 4 points, Jenny Brown with 3 points, and 2 points each from Morgan Wray and Kate Bookout. Cherryville is now 3-17 overall and 1-13 in the conference. The Lady Ironmen will have three chances to bounce back next week as they close out the regular season.
The men’s matchup turned into an offensive showcase for fans who love high-scoring games, with a combined 185 points between The Storm and The Ironmen. Stuart W. Cramer posted its highest point total of the season in a 105-80 win over Cherryville. Both teams finished well above their season scoring averages. This game was Cherryville’s second-highest-scoring game of the season; they recently scored 87 against West Lincoln. The Ironmen were still slowly working Cole Kelly back into the lineup as he returned from a back injury. Darius Pullen was back healthy after a recent hip injury that had held him out of a few games. Chadler Wooten will be sidelined for the remainder of the season with an ankle injury, according to Coach Antonio Griggs.
It appeared the Storm coaching staff had game-planned very well to match Cherryville’s fast-paced offense. They came out fast and struck the Ironmen as they raced out to a 15-0 lead. Cherryville was getting good looks for their shots, yet nothing seemed to fall early. The Ironmen also struggled in the first half at the free-throw line. After one quarter, the Storm led 30-16. Cherryville’s struggles from the charity stripe, the quickness of Stuart W. Cramer, and their success with three-point shots led to a 61-32 deficit at the half. The Ironmen regrouped at halftime and would outscore the Storm 22-21 in the third period. Cherryville closed to within 16 points a few times; however, falling behind 15-0 at the beginning of the game was just too much to overcome. Key players for the Storm were Vance Wilkerson with 24 points and 6 rebounds, Kaiden Dye contributed 23 points, and Kingston Womack turned in a double-double with 20 points and a career high 13 assists. Stuart W. Cramer has now won seven games by 23 points or more, improving to 12-9 overall and 8-6 in conference play. Cherryville, 6-14 overall and 3-11 in the conference, was led by Paxton Pruett’s 19 points, followed by Talon Dalton with 16 points, Darius Pullen with 14 points in his return, and Isaiah Champion and Cole Kelly each with 9 points.
There will be no rest for the Ironmen and Lady Ironmen as they have a full schedule next week, as they close out the regular season and prepare for the conference tournament the following week. First up will be a non-conference home matchup against Piedmont Charter on Tuesday, February 10. This will also be senior night. Wednesday, February 11, is the rescheduled home game against Shelby, and finally, on Friday, February 13, the teams will travel to Bessemer City for the regular season finale. The non-conference makeup game with North Gaston, rescheduled for Thursday, has been cancelled. Just a reminder that schedules are subject to change if any inclement weather cancels or delays school.
