Lady Ironmen Snap 3 Game Win Streak, and Begin a New One

Cherryville, NC (WNN) - The Lady Ironmen softball team saw their 3-game winning streak come to an end, but immediately began a new winning streak the next night. Wet field conditions forced Monday evening’s home game with Lincoln Charter to be postponed until Tuesday, creating back-to-back days of play for Cherryville. 

Lincoln Charter at Cherryville, March 17, 2026 

The luck of the Irish was with the Lady Eagles of Lincoln Charter on St. Patrick’s Day as they put an end to Cherryville’s 3-game winning streak by a score of 13-4. Cherryville dropped to 4-3, while Lincoln Charter improved to 3-3. Errors plagued both teams; however, it was the pitching of Darrah Beam for the Lady Eagles that made the difference in the game. She pitched 7 innings, gave up 1 earned run, and struck out 10. Jenny Brown started in the circle for the Lady Ironmen. She pitched 3 1/3 innings, gave up 7 runs (3 earned), 9 hits, and walked 1. Gracie Capps pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief. She gave up 6 hits, 6 runs (1 earned), walked 2, and struck out 2 batters. Lincoln Charter collected 15 hits, 11 RBIs, 5 stolen bases, and 6 runners left on base. Cherryville produced 10 hits, 3 RBIs, 2 stolen bases, but committed 5 errors and left 10 runners on base. They did turn 1 double play. Ava Patterson soared for the Lady Eagles with 4 hits and 7 RBIs, and for Cherryville, Jenny Brown had 3 hits and 1 RBI. Addison Davis added 2 hits for Cherryville.

Darrah Beam got things started quickly with a single and immediately stole second base. Erica Burnham reached on an error, a passed ball sent Beam to third base, then scored when Ava Patterson grounds out to shortstop. Lydia Potts grounded to shortstop to score Burnham. In the bottom of the first, the Lady Ironmen tied the game at 2-2. Jenny Brown singled, then stole second. Landry Beam reached on an error, and Kennedy Weathers doubled, scoring Brown. Jenna Anthony reached on an error to score Beam. The Lady Eagles went back in front 5-2 at the top of the third. Erice Burnham tripled to right field, Ava Patterson singled to score Burnham, Jaicee Wehunt tripled to score Patterson, Bella Valverde walked, then Nivaeha Yzquierdo grounded out to second to score Wehunt. Cherryville closed the gap to 5-4 in the bottom of the third, but that is as close as they would get. Jenna Anthony tripled to right field and scored on a throwing error. Addison Davis singled to center field, Camryn Shirley singled to center field on a line drive that scored the courtesy runner, Ella Blake. In the top of the fourth, Darrah Beam reached on an error, Erice Burnham doubled, and Ava Patterson reached on an error, which scored Beam and Burnham. Lincoln Charter opened things up at the top of the fifth as Bella Valverde singled to left field, Nevaeha Yzquierdo singled to left field, Haden Huffman reached on an error, and Yzquierdo advanced to third on a wild pitch. Olivia Bartlett walked, Erica Burnham reached on an error, Yzquierdo and Huffman scored each. Ava Patterson drove in Bartlett and Burnham with a double to center field. The pinch hitter for Olivia Bartlett reached on an error in the top of the sixth. Bartlett reentered the game as a runner. She stole second before Darrah Beam walked. Bartlett was picked off at second. Ava Patterson doubled to score Beam. Lydia Potts singled to shortstop, and Patterson scored when Jaicee Wehunt reached on an error.

Cherryville at Piedmont Community Charter March 18, 2026

The Lady Ironmen bounced back from their previous loss with a 15-6 non-conference win over Piedmont Community Charter. Cherryville upped its record to 5-3. Jenny Brown had a great night in the circle as she went 6 innings, giving up 7 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk, and struck out 10 batters. Gracie Capps pitched 1 inning of relief, closing out the seventh. Cherryville scored 9 runs in the seventh inning to put the game out of reach. Addison Davis, Jenna Anthony, and Gracie Capps each had 2 hits. The team was patient at the plate and drew 19 walks. Brown and Beam each had 4. The Lady Ironmen also stole 4 bases. Kailee Walker went 3 for 4 to lead Piedmont. Shelby Ostrander and Bailee Roper drove in 2 RBIs, and Evangeline East and Kailee Walker stole multiple bases; PCC had a total of 9 stolen bases. Piedmont also turned 1 double play and 1 triple play.

Cherryville jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Jenny Brown walked, Landry Beam singled, and both scored when Kennedy Weathers doubled. Piedmont answered with 1 run. Kailee Walker singled to left field. After she stole second, Evangeline East walked, Walker stole third, and East stole second. Bailee Roper’s single was enough to score Walker, but Roper was thrown out advancing to second. In the top of the fifth, Addison Davis singled and advanced on a passed ball. Maddie Avery walked, Camryn Shirley’s single scored Davis. Shirley stole second, and Serenity Thomas doubled to score Avery. The Lady Ironmen would stretch the lead to 6-2 in the top of the sixth as Jenna Anthony singled to center field, Addison Davis singled, and Gracie Capps added a single that scored Anthony. PCC would close to 6-5 at the bottom of the sixth. Evangelin East singles, Bailee Roper reached on an error, allowing East to score. Sophie Gibson singled, and then Shelby Ostrander singled to right field, scoring both courtesy runners, Addison Propst and Carolina Molloy. The top of the seventh was kind to the Lady Ironmen. Serenity Thomas walked, as did Jenny Brown, Landry Beam, and Kennedy Weathers, to score Thomas. Jenna Anthony grounded into a fielder’s choice that scored Brown. Addison Davis walked, Gracie Capps reached on an error to score Weathers. Maddie Avery’s walk scored Anthony. Camryn Shirley walked to score Davis, Serenity Thomas then walked to score Capps, and Jenny Brown also walked to score Avery. Landry Beam is hit by a pitch, allowing Shirley to score, and Kennedy Weathers walks, scoring Thomas. Piedmont could only add 1 run in the bottom of the seventh as Kailee Walker singled and Evangeline East sacrificed to score Walker.

The Lady Ironmen will again have a 3-game week, traveling to West Lincoln on March 24 at 6 pm, returning home on March 25 to host North Gaston at 5 pm, and then hosting West Lincoln again on March 27 at 5 pm.
