Cramerton, NC (WNN) - On Saturday, June 27, 2026, the City of Cramerton, in partnership with the Cramerton Historical Society, hosted a day of patriotic events at Goat Island, located at 141 8th Ave., Cramerton, NC.
The day's events began with the reenactors marching over Goat Island Bridge, playing drums and a flute that transported everyone into colonial times. A few of the reenactors spoke about the historical significance behind the Battle of Kings Mountain, often referred to as the "turning point of the south" during the American Revolutionary War. The introduction was followed by vocal performances of "In Good Ole Colony Times" and "For The Rifle".
The re-enactment featured a 10-minute performance depicting how Patriot militia forces surrounded and defeated the British troops commanded by Major Patrick Ferguson in a battle that historically lasted 60 minutes.
Approximately 15 to 20 members of the Liberty Mountain Group participated in the production. Founded in 2014, the organization is now in its twelfth season of bringing Revolutionary War history to life. Professional reenactor Lynne Smith assisted the cast by training performers in musket volley techniques. Many of the costumes and props used in the performance are either authentic re-enactment pieces or personally owned by the actors.
Those interested in seeing Liberty Mountain perform again can attend the group's annual Battle of Kings Mountain anniversary presentations in September and October.
Following the re-enactment, community members gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Patriots Alley.
The project began as a vision on March 28, 2025. Cramerton Mayor Nelson Wills said he wanted to transform an unused alleyway into a place that reflects the nation's founding principles, calling it "a living tapestry of American history."
During the ceremony, several local veterans were recognized for their military service, including World War II Army Corporal Lewis Crawford, Vietnam War veteran and Purple Heart Recipient Sergeant Larry Rick, and Purple Heart recipient Brett Barnhouse. Congressman Tim Moore thanked each veteran for their dedication and sacrifice.
Patriots Alley now serves as a permanent space for remembrance, reflection, and appreciation while offering visitors a place to connect with the nation's history. If you would like to check it out, Patriots Alley is located beside the Post Office at 11 Center St, Cramerton.
