Cleveland County Kicks Off Its First-Ever Creek Week April 11-18 2026

Shelby, NC (WNN) - Cleveland County is celebrating its waterways for the very first time with Creek Week, a week-long community event taking place April 11-18, 2026. Bringing together local municipalities, environmental organizations, and residents of all ages, Creek Week is built around a shared mission: protecting and enjoying the streams, lakes, and rivers that connect and sustain our communities.

Throughout the week, participants can take part in recreational, educational, and volunteer activities designed to inspire appreciation for our natural resources and promote clean, healthy waters across Cleveland County.

Schedule Of Events:

April 11

  • River Cleanup at the Broad River Greenway, 9 AM-1 PM
  • Fishing Demonstration at the Broad River Greenway, 9:30 AM-1 PM
  • Creek Week Drop-In at Lawndale Park, 11 AM-3 PM
  • Creek Week Activities at Foothills Farmers' Market, 8 AM-Noon

April 11–18 (All Week)

  • Creek Week Scavenger Hunt
  • Creek Week Escape Room with the Cleveland County Library System

April 11–25

  • Town of Waco Spring Litter Sweep (extended through April 25)


April 14–16

  • Water Plant Tours with Cleveland County Water, 9-11 AM each day


April 15

  • Waterways & Wildlife Program at the Kings Mountain Gateway Trail, 9:30 AM-1:30 PM


April 17

  • Kings Mountain Annual Litter Sweep - Meet at Patriots Park Gazebo, 8 AM
  • Foundations of Water Education Workshop, 9 AM-3:30 PM (registration required)


April 18

  • C.A.R.E.'s Annual Spring Plant Sale, 8 AM-Noon, One Motion Picture Blvd, Shelby
  • Guided River Outing from Delight to Lawndale, 10 AM-3:30 PM
  • Earth Day Celebration at the Kings Mountain Gateway Trail, 11 AM-3 PM
  • Creek Critter Safari Drop-In at Triple BBB Vineyard, 1-3 PM

"With more than 15 events and 20+ participating community partners, Creek Week truly belongs to this county," said Amanda Strickland, Conservation Education Specialist with Cleveland County Soil and Water Conservation.
