Cherryville, NC (WNN) - What an amazing season for the Cherryville Post 100 Junior team. They had an amazing season that ended in a 1-0 heartbreaking loss, just one game shy of playing for the state championship. Coach Stan Haynes and his assistants have put together a team to be feared by opponents. Despite the two losses in the state tournament, they finished the season with a record of 25-3! They have no reason to hang their heads. This team gave it their all and left it all on the field; nothing was held back as they gave 100% and then a little more.
The 2025 team blew through the regular season, losing only one game to Burns in extra innings. They swept their way through the Area IV playoffs to win the title. This week, they played exceptionally well against the other seven best teams in the state. The final loss could have easily swung the other way. The 25-3 record gives this team the most wins by a Cherryville Junior’s team. I’m sure they set records in other areas as well, although I was unable to gather sufficient statistics to be able to document any that might have been set.
I’ll list some team and individual statistics for those who love keeping up with stats. The boys from the ‘Ville were very aggressive on the base pads. As a team, they stole 123 bases. Chandler Wooten stole 32, Kenan Fowler 26, and Bryson Withers 14. The team had a combined batting average of .294. Kenan Fowler averaged .400, Chandler Wooten .361, Blake Mincy .348, Blake Mitchell .338, and Bryson Lamacchia .300. Their RBI totals were also off the hook. The team batted 171 runners in. Chadler Wooten led the way with 25, followed closely by Kenan Fowler with 24, Blake Mincey with 18, Blake Mitchell with 22, Canon Whitesides with 17, and Davin Digh with 19. That power at the plate resulted in outscoring their opponents 222 to 51! This team was not only dominant in the batter’s box but also a force on the mound as well. The pitching staff allowed 127 hits, 51 runs, 63 walks, struck out 194, and had an ERA of 1.029. Individually, the top six pitchers were Coleman Schafer, who had a record of 8-1, walked 5, struck out 54, and had an ERA of 1.343. Kenan Willis 4-0, 6 walks, 23 strike outs, and his ERA is 1.273. Blake Mithcell 3-1, 13 walks, 56 strike outs, and an ERA of .847. Camden Williams had a 3-0 record, 17 walks, 24 strikeouts, and his ERA was 1.189. Kenan Stewart was 3-0 with 4 walks, 10 strike outs, and the ERA was .000. Canon Whitesides’ record was 2-1, 7 walks, 12 strike outs, and his ERA was .000.
Some players will be promoted to the senior team next season, and some will return for another year with the junior team. No matter which team they are with next year, these young men look to have bright futures. This team will be remembered for many years as one of the best. Congratulations to each of you for an outstanding season. Thank you for representing your team and legion post well. You have given the fans wonderful memories of some exciting games and a fun season to watch. As fans, we salute you and thank you for a job well done.
