Rev. Dr. Bill Lowe Retires After 33 Years at First Presbyterian Church

Cherryville, NC (WNN)— Rev. Dr. Bill Lowe delivered his final sermon at First Presbyterian Church on December 29, 2024, marking the conclusion of 33 years of dedicated service. The sanctuary was filled with church members and guests, all gathered to honor and celebrate the beloved pastor as he shared his final message from the pulpit.

Gifts to Commemorate Service

As part of the farewell celebration, the church honored Lowe and his wife, Brenda, with special plaques. One featured a print of the church accompanied by a heartfelt inscription. The congregation’s session unanimously voted to name the church’s new addition the “Lowe Family Life Center” in honor of their impact. Lowe’s plaque designates him as “Pastor Emeritus,” honoring his extraordinary service and ensuring the congregation will always remember his contributions.

A Sermon of Gratitude and Reflection

In his farewell sermon, Lowe focused on Philippians 1:3-11, a passage emphasizing gratitude and unity. “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,” he quoted, expressing his appreciation for the congregation’s unwavering support and faith throughout his tenure. His message encouraged the church to continue growing in love and service.

A Community Gathers in Gratitude

The night before, the church hosted a fellowship dinner to celebrate the lives and service of Lowe and his wife, Brenda. Congregants gathered in the church’s fellowship hall to share memories, express their gratitude, and honor the couple’s contributions. The event set a meaningful tone for the next day’s service, where the congregation gathered once more to fill the pews and bid farewell during Lowe’s final sermon.
