This branch’s director, Christopher Parris, notes, “This season brought out the best in our players,” and he would like to congratulate every team, especially those who took home championship titles. He would also like to remind everyone of the generosity of each team sponsor and the Bullpen Club Sponsors. Thanks to this support the league can be brought to the players at no cost to the players or their families.

8U Carolina Federal Credit Union’s Perfect Season

A huge congratulations goes out to Carolina Federal Credits Union’s 8U team’s 12 players and coaches for their undefeated season. The team is led by head coach Michael Worley and assistant coaches Allan Zepp, Tyler Beam, and Trevor Carver. When asked how the team was led to this victory, Coach Worley responded that he only pushed his players to do their best the entire season. Each player was taught to focus on the fundamentals and helped with the mental aspects of playing baseball by their coaches. Even when facing challenging situations in the last inning, these coaches helped their players learn never to give up, leading to success.

To ensure that all his players could reach their personal best, the coaches made sure to see what areas players struggled in. Worley noted that it requires constant evaluation from the coaches to see their weaknesses and to notice their strengths revealing themselves. Players were rotated to different positions on the field to ensure they experienced continual growth and found the position best suited to them. This culmination led to this team going a whole season without a loss!

Advice from the Coach

Coach Worley had thoughtful advice on what mindsets to avoid when coaching. The first is the “win at all costs” mindset. Following this will lead to players only feeling they enjoyed the game if they win. Furthermore, it will lead to distractions such as stressing over a previous bad play, taking them out of the moment. Worley suggests teaching them:

“Don’t worry about what just happened, the next play, always focus on the next play, learn, and make it better.”

When the mindset is changed to one of constant improvement, it helps the players stay in the moment. This is believed to be one of the main reasons for their success.

Worley advises against the “These 5-6 guys are our best, so we play them here or there” mindset. After focusing on each player’s strengths, it was found that all 12 players had differing strengths. This led to movement in batting rotation and the defensive game, which helped the players have more fun.

The Little League and Cherryville

The importance of this sport could result in becoming a better player for some leagues. However, in Cherryville there is a focus on growing as a person. The league helps them understand their responsibility to their fellow players and how to be respectful of everyone.

Coach Worley notes, “We as a society have a void when it comes to boys being taught to become respectable men. For us as coaches, we have a major responsibility to these guys, to their parents who trust us with teaching their kids, and Cherryville Little League, to help them become strong, respectable young men in our community.”

He would also like to thank the parents for entrusting their children to the coaches this season. It is an honor for the coaches to experience this type of season, but it can’t happen without the parents’ and guardians’ support. Their support allowed these players to grow from the first game to the championship.

What’s Next?

However, this isn’t all you can expect for 2025 from the Cherryville Little League! Starting on June 21st, 2025, the 10U All-Star Tournament will be held in Cherryville. On June 28th, Cherryville’s Coach Pitch All-Stars will begin their tournament in Caldwell County. Also, on the 28th, Cherryville’s 12U All-Stars will attempt to bring home another District Championship with their tournament in McDowell County.
