Piglins and Creepers and Ghasts, Oh My! A Minecraft Movie
By: Rusty Wise – Wise News Network
Hollywood, CA (WNN)—Every now and then, a movie comes along that captivates a cult following. However, a Minecraft Movie released on April 4th, 2025, already had a head start. Minecraft has a following of 15 million subscribers, 204 million players, and over 300 million copies sold as of 2024.

Minecraft History
The game was developed in 2009 by Markus “Notch” Persson and officially released in 2011 by Mojang Studios. It is a sandbox game where you can create things without a predetermined goal. Then, Microsoft purchased Minecraft and Mojang Studios in 2014 for $2.5 billion. The game has had many revisions and updates over the years and is the best-selling video game of all time. Even with the updates, it still looks like the blocky-cubic world and characters, much like the original. Single-player and multi-player modes are available.
Minecraft Movie
The movie, A Minecraft Movie, produced by Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment, is about four misfits who are pulled into a portal and the cubic world of Minecraft. They embark on a mission to help “Steve,” the original and default crafter in Minecraft. The movie stars Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, Jennifer Coolidge, and Sebastian Hansen. The director is Jared Hess, and Momoa is also a producer. The budget for the film was $150 million, and the movie has already grossed over $500 million worldwide. It will probably hit one billion worldwide in sales. A Minecraft Movie is the highest-grossing movie of 2025 and has well surpassed estimated sales.

Shout Outs and Followers
Does shouting “Chicken Jockey” and “Steve” mean anything in 2025? Yes, it does if you attend the movie. There are scenes in the film when the audience will shout out names and catchphrases and sometimes go a little crazy. Names of villainous creatures such as piglins, creepers, ghasts, and endermen are just a few. And there are chickens, sheep, wolves, bees, and other animals, all in cube form. Darkness occurs every 20 minutes in Minecraft, and that is when the trouble starts. Worlds that you can enter and are also in the film are the Overworld and the Nether.
Movie Goers
The shoutouts during the movie were an experience themselves and gave the film more viral traction. Believe it or not, some theaters have seen popcorn being thrown, soda spewed, and even fireworks at certain scenes. The movie rating is PG in the USA. Apparently, the theater experience rating varies per theater location and time.
Conclusion
I was able to experience the film myself, and it was entertaining. It was fun just watching people from 7 to 70 of age in their merch shirts shouting “Steve” and “Chicken Jockey.” Luckily, I did not witness any food-throwing. I just watched cubic creatures in cubic worlds trying to kill humans. Welcome to 2025.
