CHERRYVILLE, NC (WNN) – After much anticipation, Pete’s Fish Box is now open. Tracy Heavner launched the restaurant on Wednesday, Sep. 6, 2023, following several months of preparation.
The establishment is named in honor of Heavner’s father, Pete Heavner, a passionate ocean enthusiast who passed away in 2020.
Pete’s Fish Box offers a diverse menu of fish dishes, including flounder filet, perch and frog legs, only available on Fridays.
Despite some initial difficulties on opening day, the community showed strong support for Heavner and her team. A Facebook post revealed that the potato oven was not functional, and the bun warmer did not arrive on time.
Nevertheless, the Fish Box crew persevered, deciding to proceed with the opening.
“We are determined to open anyway and make the best of it, so we won’t have sandwiches or baked potatoes tomorrow,” the Pete’s Fish Box Facebook account stated.
Many community members expressed their support and best wishes for the restaurant’s grand opening.
The carryout-drive-thru-only location is at 116 W. First Street, Cherryville, NC, and temporarily accepts cash only. It operates from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Fridays through Mondays, except during its opening week from Wednesday, Sep. 6, to Monday, Sep. 11. You can reach them at 704-802-4015.
As the scent of fried food filled the air, the Fish Box featured live music outside the venue on its opening day.
