Cherryville, NC (WNN) – After just over two years of serving the Cherryville community with new ownership, Papa’s Pizza will officially close its doors on Sunday, June 8th, 2025.

Papa’s is a beloved local pizza spot. It is known for its lunchtime buffet, cheesy breadsticks, and the occasional pickled pizza. They announced their closure in a Facebook post on May 31st. The news quickly spread, sparking memories from customers who recalled birthday parties, post-game meals, and community gatherings at the establishment.

Cathy Moore, who took over the business in early 2023, reflected on her time at Papa’s as more than just running a restaurant. It was about building relationships and being part of the community.

Community Connection

What made Papa’s Pizza more than an average pizzeria was Moore’s commitment to community outreach. She sponsored the local High School yearbook, gave deals to the Little League teams, hosted kindergartners for make-your-own pizza days, and various other events. All to let Cherryville know that they were welcome at Papa’s Pizza.

“I’m a people person, maybe I help too much, but I believe we all need to support each other, especially in a small town like this one.” -Cathy Moore

A Tough Decision

Despite her efforts, business wasn’t always steady. Moore acknowledged that being tucked away in a largely vacant shopping center off East Main Street made it difficult to maintain consistent foot traffic. In the last few months, she found herself putting more money in than she was taking out.

“I wasn’t getting paid. I was paying to work. And I could only do that for so long.” – Cathy Moore

Eventually, she got a call from someone interested in buying the restaurant. After some negotiation, she decided it was time to move in a different direction.

Moore credits her family for standing by her through the tough times, saying their help made it all possible. She plans to focus on her real estate firm, M&M Realty, with her licenses in both North Carolina and South Carolina.

What’s Next for the Space?

While Papa’s Pizza is closing its doors, pizza isn’t leaving Cherryville. Accordingly, a Pizza Inn franchise is set to open in its place on June 23, 2025, as part of the chain’s expansion across North Carolina. The new location at 1002 East Main Street is currently hiring, and Moore’s sister is expected to remain on staff during the transition.

Also, a major development is on the horizon as Tractor Supply Co. plans to move into the longtime vacant Harris Teeter space in the shopping center. The building located at 1012 East Main Street will undergo extensive remodeling in preparation for an opening date that has yet to be announced.
