NC American Legion State Baseball Games Moved to Gastonia

Cherryville, NC (WNN) – The 2024 American Legion State Baseball Senior Boys playoffs are in Cherryville this week. However, you must add Gastonia, NC, to the locations as heavy rains and storms have plagued the tournament starting Saturday, July 2024. Today, Monday, July 22, the first two games have been moved to Sims Legion Ballpark in Gastonia beginning at 10 AM. ย
The Saturday and Sunday nightcap games were both postponed to the following day. Saturday night’s opening ceremonies were cut short after the National Anthem when a sudden severe thunderstorm took over the area, delaying the Saturday night game between Cherryville Post 100 and Gardner Post 232.
Per Cherryville City Manager and volunteer Brian Dalton, “We moved the games to Sims because it is artificial turf. We hope to have the last two games back at Cherryville today.”
The 10:00 AM game at Sims Legion Park will be between Shelby Post 82 and Garner Post 232, which are undefeated in the tournament thus far, and Wayne County Post 11. The following game will be Union County Post 535 and Wilmington Post 10.
Today’s final two games, starting at 4 PM, will be Hamlet Post #49 taking on the loser of Shelby vs. Garner and Wayne County taking on the winner of Shelby vs. Garner. These games are scheduled to be played in Cherryville, weather permitting
Cherryville Post 100 and High Point Post 87 lost their first two games, eliminating them from the tournament.
Times and locations may vary depending on the weather.
