Multiple Police Presence At Cherryville Home: Suspect Captured

Cherryville, NC (WNN) – A large police presence is at 519 S Mulberry St., a home in Cherryville, NC on June 27, 2024 around 2PM.
6/27/2024 Update 6:30PM –
According to Major Dan Renn of the Cherryville Police Department, at approximately 1:15 pm, the Gaston County Police began pursuing a stolen car that entered the City of Cherryville. Cherryville officers also joined the pursuit, which ended in the 500 block of S. Mulberry Street, where the officers lost sight of the vehicle. It was later discovered that the driver, identified as Thomas Joe Evans Jr., had stopped the vehicle, concealed it behind a residence, and fled on foot.
Cherryville Police located the vehicle behind the residence and used a Gaston County K9 to track the suspect. It was determined that the suspect had entered a vacant residence at 519 S. Mulberry Street, where he was subsequently taken into custody.
Evans is being held in the Gaston County Jail without bond on 9 charges, of which 2 are felonies; Possess Stolen Motor Vehicle and Possess Methamphetamine.
Other charges include Flee/Elude Arrest, Motor Vehicle, Possess Stolen Motor Vehicle, Possess Drug Paraphernalia, Speed, Exceed Limit >15 Or Exceed 80 mph, Reckless Driving, Wanton Disregard, Fict/Alt Title/Reg Card/Tag, Passing, Unsafe, Oncoming Traffic and Fail To Stop – Steady Red Light.
