NORTH CAROLINA (WNN) – Hundreds of thousands of AT&T customers experienced service outages on February 22, 2024. Some reports suggest issues with Verizon, T-Mobile, and Spectrum, but AT&T is the primary service affected.

According to a tweet from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, customers faced difficulties contacting 911 for a brief period. The outage manifested as AT&T users being stuck in SOS mode, allowing only emergency calls.

Additionally, the Cleveland County Government addressed the situation on Facebook, advising against testing phone connections by calling 911. This practice could overwhelm emergency services, making it challenging to handle genuine emergency calls.

Although some Cherryville residents reported outages, AT&T’s outage tracking map shows no problems in the area. Spectrum users have also noted disruptions.

The outage was rectified around 12:00 p.m. for many Cherryville residents.

ABC News sources confirmed the outage was not intentional; AT&T declined to comment.
