Marches and Fanfares Step Into Place In Gastonia NC

Gastonia, NC (WNN)– Upcoming on March 28th, 2025 you can see the Gaston Symphonic Band in action for free at 7:00 P.M. This concert will feature popular marches from across history with music ranging from Tchaikovsky to John Williams. You can attend ” Marches and Fanfares”, by heading to the First Assembly of God at 777 Myrtle School Rd, Gastonia NC.
When you head out to attend you’ll be treated to an ensemble with over 65 members that can create a booming tone for the more intense moments in their set. The band has grown to this point since its founding in 1993 under Director Seth Kirby. It was originally known as “The Gaston Community Band”, but after amassing a large amount of musicians it became know as the “Gaston Symphonic Band” to reflect the changes.
About the Band Leadership:
Every symphony needs a conductor and the Gaston Symphonic Band is no different with Mark Ewing taking the lead. He became the director in 2024 and has experience as both a director and musician. He has taught at multiple schools including Cherryville High School and Holbrook Middle School. Since 2005 he’s attended the Gaston Symphonic Band and many other groups as a euphonium and tuba player.
You wouldn’t have to look far to find the previous director however, as John Gunter is now the board president and an active member. Gunter can also be found in the tuba section as the section leader! While he was the director Gunter is quoted as saying:
“Some of the best band directors in our county have been directors of this band. Some of the best musicians in our county have been part of the band,” he said. “You’re stepping into a musical history of Gaston County when you become the director of the Gaston Symphonic Band.” Showing the respect he has for the position.
