Marc, A Mighty Warrior
By: Roger Sigmon – Wise News Network
Cherryville, NC (WNN)— It has often been said, “What doesn’t kill you will make you stronger.” Many times, during tragedy or facing seemingly impossible odds, a person will either run to God or run from God. Cherryville native Marc Sigmon can affirm these both to be true statements, at least in his life.
Marc has spent 47 of his 52 years battling and overcoming seizures, brain tumors, strokes, surgery mishaps, cancer, and Covid. Many people have succumbed to just one of these maladies, yet Marc is still with us, even though his battles never seem to end.

Through it all, he has claimed Joshua 1:9 as his life verse. It reads, “Have I not commanded thee to be strong of good courage, be not afraid, neither dismayed; for the lord God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” Yes, Marc Sigmon is a man of faith and has chosen to use the experience from his medical journey to inspire and help others as they face difficult battles as well.
A Lifetime of Medical Challenges
Where did it all begin? As Marc was celebrating his fifth birthday, he had his first of three seizures on that day. This would begin a lifelong battle of tumors, cancer, seizures, strokes, doctor appointments, surgeries, and rehab.
He was assigned a home health nurse that pushed him beyond his ability almost to a breaking point. This results in either starting a fight or giving up. Marc proved to be a fighter, and this aided in his rehabilitation. Doctors had said he would never walk again, never speak clearly, his vision would remain impaired, and his left arm would be useless. He persevered and regained 3 out of 4.
A Dark Time and Divine Intervention
He didn’t always display the strong faith he has today. In fact, at one point in his late teens, he slipped into a dark place mentally after thinking he would never be able to experience his true love of hunting again due to partial loss of vision and mobility.
Just as he was about to follow through on a very bad decision, the phone rang, and it was his mother checking in on him and informing him his in-home health nurse would be there that day instead of the next as scheduled. He credits this as a divine intervention that ultimately saved his life.
Finding Purpose in Suffering
In 2021, Mr. Sigmon contracted a severe case of Covid. He required hospitalization and strong doses of oxygen and still had difficulty breathing. He again started to feel useless and prayed for God to take him home, yet it didn’t happen.
Ultimately, he prayed for an answer to why he was still alive and what could be his purpose to remain. Two things resulted from that, one being he and Mark Shull cofounded a cancer benefit called “Hunt for a cure”, which raises money for St.Jude’s and Levine’s Children’s hospitals along with others.
It started in memory of his Aunt Martha Beam, who passed away from cancer. In the first two months through its first two months over $10,000 was raised through donations and a raffle for a red stag hunt trip to New Zealand.
Sharing His Story Through a Book
Marc began sharing his testimony at churches and wherever he was invited to speak. After doing this for a while, he felt the lord impressing him to write a book to further detail experiences and to inspire others. “I never thought about writing a book, but the lord told me to write a book using my battles to reach out to others facing battles and to reach the lost.

I want people to come to know Christ and if they already know him, realize he will see them through any battle.” Marc explained as to why he wrote a book about his journey. The book is titled: “Fighting Life’s Battles with the Armour of God: Marc, A Might Warrior.”
Several local book signings have taken place, and many have stated they have been inspired after reading the accounts documented within the book. The next book signing has yet to be confirmed, so in the meantime, a copy can be obtained locally by calling Marc at 704-435-2143. If you are not local, orders can be placed online at Amazon, Books a Million, Barnes and Noble, and others.
A Positive Outlook and a Mission to Share Faith
The first thing most people notice is that Marc is almost always smiling. He has every reason to be depressed and irritable, and no one would blame him. Marc chooses instead to be thankful for another of life and to embrace the mission he feels called to, which is to share Jesus and what he has done for him. He does not see a glass as half full nor half empty, instead, he sees it overflowing.
This young man has been on a remarkable journey and details his experiences in his book and hopes to get it into as many hands as possible. His motivation to write is not to start a new career nor to make money.
He just wants to inform people that the lord will never leave you nor forsake you no matter the battles you face. Holding the first copy of his new book in his hands, Marc said he felt “overwhelmed, excited, with a sense of accomplishment that God allowed me to achieve this goal.” When asked what parting words he wanted to share, Sigmon stated, “ This story is not just about me; it’s about my battles, my family, my faith, and my purpose, which is to share Jesus Christ.
