High Heat Moves Into The Carolinas

Cherryville, NC (WNN) – A long-lasting heat wave has hit the Carolinas, which the area has not seen for decades. The high temperatures and high humidity will cause the outdoors to feel above 100 degrees. 

It’s crucial to take extreme precautions when venturing outdoors. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, seek shade whenever possible, and avoid strenuous activities during the hottest parts of the day.

Also, some heat-related common sense tips are in order:

  • Remember, it’s a matter of life and death: never leave a child, pet, or any living thing in a car during this time of year, as the interior temperatures can skyrocket to a dangerous 160+ degrees. Do not walk pets on hot pavement or sidewalks, as these temperatures can well exceed 150+ degrees.
  • Avoid swimming in unauthorized areas.
  • Supervise children in all swimming areas, as heat can diminish swimming strength.
  • Raise your air conditioning thermostat to at least 75 or 80 degrees. This will prevent the AC unit from overworking and running constantly, extending the system’s lifespan and reducing your next power bill.
