Cherryville, NC (WNN)- Murray and Linda Beam have been named the winners of Wise News Network’s First Annual Cherryville’s Best Christmas Display Contest in Cherryville, NC. Our WNN News Team caught up with The Beams at their Washburn Street home on Friday night, December 20th, 2024.
A Winter Wonderland Inspired by South Park Mall
The Beams’ beautiful display, reminiscent of a snowy winter wonderland, captivated the judges and public voters alike. “We got the idea while shopping at South Park Mall in Charlotte several years ago,” Linda Beam shared. “One of the winter displays had polar bears and snow, and that’s where we drew our inspiration.” Their home’s front yard, transformed into a picturesque blizzard scene, has been described as “magazine cover-worthy.”
Family Effort Brings Holiday Magic to Life
Creating the enchanting display was a family affair, with their son, Trey, contributing by hanging lights on trees, the ceiling, and the porch. Despite the elaborate nature of the decorations, the couple managed to set up the entire display in just a day and a half. “We enjoy decorating every year and try to come up with a different idea,” said Murray Beam.
Inside the Home Matches the Magic Outside
The holiday beauty did not stop outside. Inside the Beams’ home. Indeed the festive spirit continued with a sparkling Christmas tree decorated with bright red ornaments, ribbons, and lights. Their cozy living room featured a fireplace mantel covered with garlands and nutcracker figurines. Everything was warm, cheerful, and full of Christmas charm, making it feel like a scene from a holiday storybook.
Community Support Secures Victory
The contest featured a 10-day nomination period, which started on December 3rd. The 5-day voting period ended on December 18th, with nominations and public votes pouring in during these times on the WNN website. The Beams consistently led the polls of the eight contestant homes, earning votes from public voters and Wise News Network’s in-house judges. WNN Owner and Founder Rusty Wise presented the couple with a $100 Visa gift card, which will be gifted by the Beams to a group called the Golden Oldies from First Wesleyan Church in Cherryville that conducts missions projects in the area. In addition to the money, WNN placed a winning yard sign, and a customized plaque featuring an engraved photo of their award-winning home was presented to Murray and Linda.
Gratitude and Holiday Cheer
The Beams expressed appreciation for the community’s support. “We’re grateful for everyone who voted for us,” said Linda Beam. Surrounded by family, including their daughter-in-law Kelly Beam and two of Murray’s sisters Vicky Duncan and Lanita Woodruff, the Beams celebrated their win in true holiday spirit amid the simulated snowstorm that brought their display to life.
