A Modified Parade Route for a Smoother Experience

This year’s parade followed the same modified route that was introduced in 2023, which organizers say has made the event more enjoyable for spectators. Specifically, the parade began at the intersection of Main and Mulberry Streets, heading east on Main Street toward the Papa’s Pizza parking lot. The updated route replaced the previous one, which headed east to west on Main Street. The change has helped create a safer, more organized experience for everyone involved.

Dalton Pence, Grand Marshal

A special highlight of this year’s parade was the presence of Dalton Pence as the Grand Marshal. Pence, a 2021 graduate of Cherryville High School and a baseball standout, was proud to be part of the celebration. Pence is a University of North Carolina baseball recruit known for his impressive performance on the field. He was named Player of the Week by The Gaston Gazette and Shelby Star in 2021.

A Tradition of Fun and Community Spirit

The Cherryville Christmas Parade is a cherished tradition, drawing people from all over to participate in the festivities. Although other parades may give out awards, the Cherryville Christmas parade’s focus is on making the event fun for everyone. “We just want to make sure everyone enjoys themselves,” said Mary Beth Tackett, Director of the Cherryville Chamber of Commerce.

The parade featured a variety of groups, including local firefighters, paramedics, marching bands, and dancers and cheerleaders from Kenzie’s Dancin’ Out. The diverse mix of participants added energy and excitement to the event, making it a true celebration of Cherryville’s community spirit.

Will the Candy Tradition Continue?

One of the most beloved traditions at the Cherryville Christmas Parade has been the tossing of candy to the crowd. Will it continue? The short answer is probably not. As Tackett explained, adults often grabbed the candy before the children, which was unfair.
