Cherryville, NC (WNN) – The City of Cherryville will host its Independence Day Celebration on July 3rd, 2024. The always anticipated event will occur at Rudisill Stadium, located at 401 E First Street, from 6 PM to 10 PM, with the fireworks taking place at approximately 10 PM, depending on the weather.

Along with plenty of food vendors and a beer garden, the Swingin’ Medallions band, which has never played in Cherryville, will be playing. The Swingin’ Medallions, from Greenwood, SC, have several hits, including “Double Shot of My Baby’s Love” from 1966, arguably their most significant release.

This year, the city will hire a professional fireworks display, which should include higher and louder pyrotechnics for an estimated 8,000 to 15,000 audience. The fireworks are fired in the First United Methodist Church parking area northwest of the Stadium, with roads closed adjacent to the church.

City of Cherryville Event Coordinator and Chamber Director Mary Beth Tackett explained the decision to move the event from downtown to Rudisill Stadium, emphasizing the safety and comfort it provides. “A few years ago, during the streetscape, we moved the Independence Day Celebration to the Stadium so that we would be able to hold the event. After the event, City officials received many requests to keep it there. Many citizens feel it is safer for kids being in-closed; there is a lot more seating and more open viewing of the fireworks display”.

One thing to note this year when entering Rudisill Stadium is that the Pink Street Entrance will be closed, and all entries will be on the East First Street Entrance or the North Hoyle Street Entrance.

As we gear up for the event and Independence Day Holiday season, it’s important to remember to stay hydrated and dress for the hot weather. Gaston Emergency Services will be on hand during Cherryville’s Independence Day Celebration event to ensure everyone’s safety, providing emergency water and assistance if needed.
