Cherryville Reacts to the Eclipse

CHERRYVILLE, NC (WNN) – The highly anticipated North American Eclipse has begun its path toward totality. In Cherryville, onlookers observed approximately 85% totality.
Although the difference between 100% totality and 85% is vast, Cherryville still experienced some interesting occurrences. The eclipse started at around 1:30 p.m. and is set to end around 4:30 p.m., April 8, 2024.
At approximately 2:45 p.m., eclipse watchers in Cherryville reportedly heard birds begin to chirp. This is a common occurrence during an eclipse because animals react to the dimming of the sun as if it were nighttime.
Additionally, the temperature dropped nearly six degrees. Before the eclipse it was around 77ยฐF in Cherryville, according to Weather Underground. During the eclipse it got as low as 71ยฐF. However, at around 3:40 p.m., the temperature started to rise again.
Local onlookers also reported that shadows and daylight looked abnormal, almost like a filter had been placed over the outside world.
Luckily for Cherryville residents, the clouds did not cover the astronomical phenomena. In other parts of North Carolina, like Boone, the clouds made eclipse visibility difficult.
As the eclipse fades away, the local environment returns to normal. The temperature inches back up and the birds go about their daily tasks. Even people go back to their routines, putting away their lawn chairs and eclipse glasses. Despite the brevity of this event, its impression will last.
