Cherryville, NC (WNN) – It’s hot, and Summer 2024 is in full swing. Thankfully, though, Cherryville area residents and visitors now have an inexpensive way to cool off. It’s the new Cherryville Splash Pad, which is free for the public to use.

The City of Cherryville Officials held a ribbon cutting on July 16th, 2024, to officially open the 3,000-square-foot baseball-themed complex. Also announced this week are the operating hours for the rest of the Summer, 7 days a week, 12 PM to 6 PM.

Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Cherryville Chamber of Commerce, Pete Craft, started the ribbon-cutting ceremony by saying, “It’s so nice to ride by here and see the children from this community enjoying the splash pad and this whole area of the swimming pool and so forth. And we appreciate the work that’s been done and everyone involved, making this a very special place for the children of this community”.

Mayor Pro Tem Jill Puett echoed the project’s common sentiment: “Thank you on behalf of the city. When I tell you, we couldn’t be prouder of this because adults had mentioned that their kids needed more things to do here in general.”

The $350,000 project was a collaborative venture between the City of Cherryville and Piedmont Lithium. Piedmont Lithium provided the necessary funding through the Community Development Agreement signed in 2023. “This is part of that agreement, and this is one of the benefits our community is receiving,” stated Brian Dalton, Cherryville City Manager.ย

Piedmont Lithium’s community relations representative, Erin Sanders, spoke to the over 25 attendees. “Emily, Malissa, and I are so pleased to be here this morning to celebrate the opening of this excellent splash pad. We’re so glad that we might be able to help support the city in bringing its vision to life. And we hope that the community, especially families and children, will do it for years to come.”

Q & R Structures, a local builder of the splash pad, has built numerous pads across the country heading next to Michigan and North Dakota.

The Cherryville Splash Pad might be small in larger communities, but it’s a big deal for Cherryville. It’s a place where kids can be kids, laughing and playing in the water while adults look on with a smile. It’s a spot where life blossoms, and you can get wet all the same.
