Cherryville Baseball Games Raise Funds, Awareness for Organ Donation
By: Wise News Network Staff
Cherryville, NC (WNN) — The Cherryville High School baseball team used its games this week to raise awareness for organ donation during April’s National Donate Life Month and to support a fellow student who received a life-saving heart transplant.

Tuesday’s home game featured fundraising efforts for the Reed family. Carson Reed, a Cherryville senior and dancer, received a heart transplant in February. The first pitch was thrown by former coach AJ Henley, who is a double lung transplant survivor.
Admission to the Tuesday game was $7, with attendees given the option to donate an additional $3 to the Reed family to help with medical and rehabilitation expenses. A half-and-half raffle was also held at the game, with proceeds going to the family.

Upcoming Game to Feature First Pitch by Transplant Recipient
This Friday, April 11th, Cherryville High School’s Baseball team will play an away game at Burns High School. This game will also feature fundraising efforts for the Reed family. During the game, Zach Minowicz, a 10th grader, golfer, and Burns student who received a liver transplant in elementary school, will throw out the first pitch.
The team aims to support the Reed family and raise awareness about the importance of organ donation. Carson’s story inspired the effort to encourage others to consider giving someone a second chance at life.

The community has rallied around the Reed family, using the hashtag #CStronger on social media. More information about organ donation can be found at DonateLife.net.
