CHERRYVILLE, NC (WNN) – The City of Cherryville is in a phase of transition, with several new projects underway and eagerly anticipated by residents. Whether it’s the forthcoming splash pad or the opening of 5 Spur Steakhouse, residents can look forward to these new additions to town soon.ย
New Restaurants/Business Updates
Vickie Spurling, owner of Vickie Spurling Realty and representative for Cherryville Main Street, LLC, reports positive progress with the incoming restaurants.ย
The Cherry Pit and Johnny Ray’s 5 Spur Steakhouse are among the most highly anticipated businesses for city residents. Spurling is optimistic that both locations will be operational before the end of 2024.ย
In a recent conversation, Spurling mentioned that work on the Cherry Pit is proceeding smoothly. Cherryville Main Street, LLC, had to conduct a survey for the patio area to integrate the outdoor seating space with the building.
“We are awaiting the survey and permit to complete the patio,” said Spurling.
Cherryville Main Street, LLC, also shared that Cherryville Main Street, LLC, is having a custom bar built for the space. The bar is scheduled to arrive in the first week of June. Although no official opening date has been set, Spurling is aiming for July.
As for the 5 Spur Steakhouse, Johnny Ray’s restaurant is in the final stages of permitting. All the plans are complete and have been submitted to the county. Spurling said the county is about two weeks away from approving the permits.
“We are going to stay concentrated on that to get it done as quickly as we can. We are not sure of the timeline yet, but it will definitely be in 2024,” said Spurling.
A common concern among some Cherryville residents is parking availability for the incoming businesses. Cherryville Main Street, LLC, is working on a solution for that. A new parking lot is being constructed on the corner of Main Street and South Mulberry Street.
This space will serve as parking for incoming apartments. Across the street from the parking lot is a three-story building where the old post office was located. Cherryville Main Street, LLC, has plans to build eight apartments inside the building.
Although the parking lot will act as parking for these apartments, Cherryville Main Street, LLC, has pledged to allow city residents to use the parking lot as well. Construction on the apartments will not begin until 2025.
Cherryville Main Street, LLC, began work on the parking lot before the apartments, prioritizing parking availability for new businesses coming to the city.
“We are trying to help the city. We just went ahead and did the parking lot early because it helps the city with parking,” said Spurling.
American Legion Updates
Baseball season is nearly upon us, and John L. รขโฌลBuckรขโฌ Fraley Field is looking brand new with recent editions. Notably, American Legion players now have batting cages to warm up in before games.
Mayor H.L. Beam advised Cherryville residents to visit the field during a city council meeting on April 8, 2024.
“I urge everyone to go by the American Legion park. They have done a lot of work,” said Mayor Beam.
Mayor Beam said turf was recently laid in the batting cages, and the advertisement signs were hung on the fence. Additionally, the new scoreboard is operational and ready to tally some Cherryville points.
Patrick O’Leary, the investor for Cherryville Main Street, LLC, donated approximately $85,000 for the scoreboard in 2023. The other improvements were funded by the state.
In December 2023, city officials, American Legion representatives, and state officials gathered at the American Legion Post 100 for a check presentation. The check, worth nearly $160,000, covered the improvements to “Buck” Fraley Field.
These improvements come ahead of Cherryville hosting the N.C. State American Legion Tournament in 2024 and 2025 and possibly a future Southeast Regional Legion Tournament.
New Sign at the Cherryville Police Department
During the April 8 city council meeting, Mayor Beam also highlighted the addition of a new sign outside of the Cherryville Police Department (C.P.D.).
C.P.D. has undergone many renovations in the past several years. The new sign is the cherry on top. Mayor Beam thanked the Farris Group for creating the sign.
“The city wishes to say thanks to Farris Fabricators for their continued support of our city,” said Mayor Beam.
As of the city council meeting, more lights will be added to the sign to make it ‘pop’ at nighttime.
Splash Pad Update
City Manager Brian Dalton is currently awaiting permits before construction can officially begin on the splash pad. As of the April 8 city council meeting, Dalton needs the engineer’s plans to arrive before the permits could be submitted to the county.
The splash pad project cost of approximately $500,000 will be funded by Piedmont Lithium.
Although there is no estimated date for the start of construction, as soon as the permits are approved, more information will be released.
With the incoming attractions occupying the minds of Cherryville residents, excitement is a common sentiment around town. The incoming parking lot is sure to be filled with eager residents who cannot wait to enjoy Cherryville’s newest businesses.
