The holiday event featured a variety of food options, with the standout dish being the crowd favorite: green eggs and ham. Janet, the co-owner and chef of Home Folks Cafe, revealed the secret behind this unique recipe. Although the green eggs aren’t sourced from a magical tree, Janet shared that they are a Whoville tradition. “They come from the Whoville green egg tree,” she said with a laugh. “It’s cold outside, but warm in here, and the crowd has been fantastic!”

In addition to the green eggs and ham, the restaurant served cheeseburgers, fries, chicken tenders, and other comfort foods to keep everyone fueled for the festivities.

Turner Family Anticipates Grinch’s Visit to Whoville

One of the highlights of the Very Cherry Whoville Christmas is, of course, the Grinch himself. As the Turner family prepared to meet the infamous character, they shared their excitement and curiosity about what the Grinch might be up to this year.

“We’re looking forward to seeing the Grinch,” said one member of the Turner family. “We don’t know exactly what he’s up to tonight, but he said he’s going to steal Christmas!”

When asked if they would confront the Grinch about his plans, the Turner Family responded. “Definitely, We’re going to ask him, ‘Are you really going to steal Christmas?'”

Grinch Plans to Steal Christmas – Or Maybe Not

We caught up with the Grinch on Mount Crumpet (The Gazebo Mini Park) as he greeted visitors with his usual mischievous attitude. When asked if he planned to steal Christmas, the Grinch wouldn’t give a clear answer.

There are no promises,” he said. “If you behave, maybe I’ll let it stay, or maybe I’ll take it away. It all depends. If it’s the kind of stuff I love, like onions or Who Hash, I’m all about it. So, there are no promises.”

Despite his infamous reputation, the Grinch’s heart seemed to grow a little warmer during his visit to Cherryville, as he jokingly assured, “Sometimes it grows, sometimes it shrinks,” when asked if he had a heart at all.

Santa Claus Spreads Holiday Cheer in Whoville

While the Grinch stirred up a bit of mischief, Santa Claus was on hand to spread Christmas cheer. Inside Home Trust Bank on Main Street, Santa greeted visitors and assured them he was keeping a close eye on the Grinch, who was reportedly being a bit grumpy.

“I think he’s cold,” said Santa, referring to the Grinch. “But he deserves to be cold. He’s on top of that mountain.”

Santa also shared that he had already been busy with his naughty and nice list, adding, “So far, everyone’s been nice, though there’s one who’s a little bit naughty—but I think the good outweighed the bad!”

New Additions to Whoville This Year

The celebration of all things Whoville has grown over the years, and this year brought several exciting new features. Mary Beth Tackett, Director of the Cherryville Chamber of Commerce, highlighted some of the new additions.

“We’ve got a gingerbread bounce mat this year, which is fun,” Tackett said. “And we have more vendors than we’ve ever had before. It’s more spread out this year, which has helped with the crowds and the lines.”

Whoville’s transformation from a simple Christmas on Main Street to a full-blown Dr. Seuss-inspired extravaganza began in 2014. Tackett explained that they wanted something unique that would set Cherryville apart from other holiday events.

“We started with an ugly Christmas sweater Christmas. And it kind of went from there. me, Debbie Hopper, and Deborah Kellar of Cherryville public warehouse, all sat down and it all kept coming back to Whoville.”
