City of Gastonia Provides Update on GO Transportation Bonds

Gastonia, NC (February 5, 2025)- The City of Gastonia is excited to share the latest updates on projects funded by the $75 million in general obligation (GO) bonds approved by almost 70 percent of voters in November 2022. Thanks to the continued support of and input from the community, since 2023, the City has made significant improvements in transportation, pedestrian safety, and quality of life have been completed, with others currently in progress. To date, the City has spent nearly $24 million dollars enhancing roadways, improving traffic flow, and making essential safety upgrades, in addition to constructing pedestrian facilities in and around parks and schools.
Key Accomplishments:
· Road Repaving and Resurfacing ($19,075,971): Approximately 90 centerline miles of roadways have been resurfaced, improving ride quality and extending the lifespan of our streets.
· Manhole Cover Repairs ($360,596): Approximately 100 manhole covers have been repaired to ensure smoother, safer road surfaces for vehicles and pedestrians alike.
· Intersection Improvements & Studies ($1,714,481): Several intersections, including Franklin Boulevard and Trenton Street near the CaroMont Health Ballpark, have received improvements and better signage, reducing congestion and enhancing traffic flow during peak hours.
· Sidewalk and Pedestrian Safety Improvements ($1,612,098): In areas with high foot traffic, like schools and community centers, new sidewalks, crosswalks, and ADA-compliant ramps have been installed to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility.
· Pedestrian Facilities ($899,218): These improvements are designed to enhance the quality of life by providing accessible green spaces, walking trails, playgrounds, and community gathering areas.
