Cherryville Mayor H.L. Beam Announces He Will Not Seek Reelection

Cherryville, NC (WNN)— In a heartfelt announcement during the January 13th, 2025, Cherryville City Council session, Mayor H.L. Beam revealed he has made the decision to not seek another term. Beam, who has served the city for 12 years, called the decision one of “great trepidation and somewhat hesitancy” after prayers, consultations with his medical team, and family discussions.

Reflecting on 12 Years of Service

Expressing his love for Cherryville, Beam said, “I have loved and enjoyed every minute of these past 12 years and… have no regrets whatsoever.” Additionally, He emphasized his commitment to three key priorities in his life: his faith, his family, and his city. Beam noted that these priorities often intertwined, with his family sometimes taking a back seat to his dedication to Cherryville.

Acknowledging Progress and Teamwork

Beam highlighted Cherryville’s progress during his tenure and expressed confidence in its continued success. He thanked former council members David Kiser, Brian Dalton, and Malcolm Parker, along with current members Gary Freeman, Jon Abernethy, Jill Puett, and Janice Hovis. “These are the true individuals that have made many tough decisions that have moved our city toward a brighter future,” he said.

Praising City Staff and Colleagues

The mayor thanked city staff and workers for their dedication and highlighted City Clerk Paige Green for her consistent support and friendship over the years. He also commended city managers past and present, including Ben Blackburn, Jeff Cash, and Brian Dalton, as well as Finance Director Dixie Wall, for their exceptional service to the city.

A Hopeful Future for Cherryville

Furthermore, Beam wished the best for Cherryville’s next mayor, who will be elected in November. “I hope the next elected Cherryville mayor has as much enjoyment and success as I have had in this leadership role as mayor of the greatest city in North Carolina,” he said, thanking the citizens for their loyalty and support over the years.

A New Chapter for Cherryville

As Mayor Beam steps down, Cherryville enters a new phase, with the community reflecting on his years of leadership and looking forward to the future with optimism and hope for continued growth and progress.
