Speaking at a gala performance of The Devil Wears Prada musical in London, he expressed gratitude for his husband’s support during this challenging time.

“I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews because, as you know, I have lost my eyesight,” he told the audience. “So it’s hard for me to see it. But I love to hear it, and boy, it sounded good tonight.” John composed the score for the musical, based on the 2003 novel by Lauren Weisberger.

In a candid interview with Good Morning America earlier this week, the 77-year-old music legend provided more details about his ongoing vision problems. “I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the south of France,” he said. “It’s been four months since I haven’t been able to see, and my left eye is not the greatest.”

Elton John, who retired from touring in 2023, shared that the condition has affected his ability to work, particularly in the studio. “There’s hope and encouragement that it will be ok, but I’m kind of stuck at the moment,” he admitted. “I can do something like this (the interview), but going into the studio and recording, I don’t know, because I can’t see a lyric for a start.”

Elton John first addressed his eyesight issues publicly in September, revealing on social media that he had been “dealing with a severe eye infection” that had left him with “only limited vision in one eye.” He also expressed optimism about his recovery, noting that he had been quietly recovering over the summer. “I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process, and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye,” he wrote at the time.
