Gastonia Grieves Over the Death of Mayor Walker E. Reid.

GASTONIA, N.C. (WNN) – Gastonia mourns the death of Mayor Walker E. Reid, who died on Thursday, November 30, 2023.
In a press release, the City of Gastonia expressed sorrow over Mayor Reid’s death, stating, “Mayor Reid was a pioneer and a compassionate leader, profoundly dedicated to our city, its residents, newcomers, and those yet to experience new beginnings.”
Mayor Reid dedicated three decades to a career in public service and served as one of three Black mayors in Gastonia’s history.
Funeral arrangements will be announced on the city’s social media platforms, according to a statement posted on its Facebook page.
Mayor Reid’s indelible impact on the City of Gastonia will not soon be forgotten. The family has requested privacy during this time.
