Cherryville, NC (WNN) – Left-handed pitcher Dalton Pence was drafted to the Major League Baseball (MLB) ranks by the Texas Rangers on July 16, 2024. Hailing from Cherryville, NC, Pence has played baseball for most of his life. He played for the Cherryville High School Ironmen, Cherryville’s Post 100 Legion Baseball Team, and, most recently, the North Carolina Tar Heels. Pence contributed to the Tar Heels’ journey to this year’s College World Series.

Pence’s draft pick, number 345, came in the 11th round during the final day, making it one of four Tar Heels picked this season for MLB. Despite starting college with a setback due to Tommy John Surgery, Pence’s 2.45 ERA and impressive relief pitching fastball this year have put him on the radar for MLB.

Like every aspiring baseball player in Cherryville, dreaming of becoming a Major League Baseball (MLB) player and playing on TV, Pence is one step closer to that dream.
