NC Little League Game Breaks Out in Fight Between Coach & Umpire

Wilson, NC (WNN) – Cherryville, NC Little League officials will meet to determine the outcome of an altercation between a coach and umpire at the Gillette Baseball Complex in Wilson, NC. During a Little League state tournament game for 10 to 12-year-old players between Cherryville and Bull City on Monday night, July 15th, 2024, the home plate umpire, Robby Beamon, suggested the Cherryville coach be ejected for using profanity. The umpire called the coach’s mother a name; the coach shoved the umpire, and a scuffle ensued. The umpire also threw blows with a protective face mask. Other coaches and umpires finally broke up the altercation.
Cherryville lost the game 15 to 6 and is out of the tournament. No charges have been filed thus far for the incident, and the coach’s name has not been made public.
