Netherlands Shocks USA: Ranlo NC Native is World Record Holder

Paris, France (WNN) – On Friday, 8-2-2024, Kaylyn Brown, a native of Ranlo, NC, anchored the U.S. Olympic Team’s 4×400 meter mixed relay team, setting a new world record in the semifinal heats. Brown ran a 49.4-second anchor leg, just three-tenths of a second off her best. She had set her personal best earlier this year while winning a silver medal at the NCAA Finals as a member of the Arkansas Razorbacks Track & Field team.

On Saturday, 8-3-2024, the USA 4×400 Team was beaten by the Netherlands team in the finals. The Dutch team finished with a time of 3:07.43 to win gold, compared to the USA’s time of 3:07.74, which won them the silver medal. The Dutch team was led by Femke Bol, who ran a mind-boggling fast time of 47.93 in the final leg.

The bronze medal winner was Great Britain at a time of 3:08.01. 

Despite not winning in the finals, the silver medal USA Team still holds the World Record set on Friday at 3:07.41.

Kaylyn Brown, the world record holder, resides with her parents in Ranlo, NC. She attended Brookside Elementary School and Holbrook Middle School in Gaston County NC.
