Cherryville, NC (WNN) – Much-needed repairs are happening this summer in Cherryville’s W. Blaine Beam Intermediate School area at 401 E First St. In addition to the school, this Gaston County School property includes Starnes Auditorium, Rudisill Football Stadium, Nixon Gym, and Fraley Baseball Field.
The construction includes new asphalt pavement, curbing, lot stripping, concrete sidewalks, fencing, and plumbing repairs that serve these areas.
The project is funded by approximately $360,000 from the bond money approved by voters in May 2018.
Two major events are planned for the area complex this 2024 summer. The City will host its Independence Celebration on July 3rd at Rudisill Stadium, and the American Legion Post 100 will host the State Baseball Tournament at Fraley Field, held from July 18th to the 24th.
In a statement from Todd Hagans (Gaston County Schools Chief Communications Officer), “We expect the pavement and curbs near Fraley Field to be completed by June 28; asphalt milling and paving work in the area near Nixon Gym begins on July 5 with completion anticipated by July 15; parking lot striping will be completed before July 20. Unless there are unforeseen circumstances with construction, we do not anticipate the project interfering with activities that are planned at the stadium and baseball field”.
The entire project is planned to be completed by August 2nd before school starts on August 14th.
