Cherryville Hires New Police Officer: City Increases Safety Spend
By: Rusty Wise – Wise News Network
Cherryville, NC (WNN) – The Cherryville Police Department recently welcomed a new police officer to their team. Officer Noah Rodriguez officially joined the force last month (June) after completing his Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) at Cleveland Community College in Shelby, NC. Officer Rodriguez’s parents and Major Dan Renn attended the ceremony.
As Cherryville grows, the need for enhanced public safety becomes more pronounced. The city of Cherryville has allocated a budget of $2,402,650 for the Cherryville Police Department for the 2024-25 fiscal year, reflecting a significant increase of $618,200 from the actual expenditure of $1,784,449 in 2022-23.
The significant increase in spending is intended for acquiring more vehicles, expanding personnel, adding night shift premium pay, ensuring competitive overall compensation, and addressing other crucial areas such as drug enforcement. The police department will also cover the costs of the BLET Certification for new officers. Importantly, this budget increase demonstrates the city’s commitment to public safety, which is a top priority.
