Gaston County Police Officer Involved in Fatal Crash

BESSEMER CITY, NC (WNN) – Gaston County Police officers responded to calls regarding a shooting on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 10:00 pm. The incident occurred on Davis Road outside of Bessemer City.ย 

The incident stemmed from an argument among family members. According to a press release from the Gaston County Police Department (GCPD), one person was shot, receiving non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been made.

“There is no known elevated risk to the public or neighbors in the area. Those involved are cooperating with the investigation.” stated the press release.ย

The press release also said that a responding officer was involved in a fatal car crash in Gastonia. The crash occurred near West Franklin Boulevard and Webb Street. It resulted in the death of a civilian and the hospitalization of the officer. 

Gaston County Police Department will investigate the crash internally. The Chief of Police, Stephen Zill, expressed his condolences to all involved parties. ย 

“Our thoughts are with all those affected by this incident. We ask for the community to keep the family and our officer in their thoughts as we work through the investigation.”
