Cherryville, NC (WNN) - The Devil Wears Prada 2 movie was released on May 1st, 2026. The sequel picks up 20 years later as Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) reunites with her old boss, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), at Runway Magazine. The PG-13 rated comedy-drama film was shot in the second half of 2025 and released by 20th Century Studios.
The movie is more complex and has a deeper plot than the first The Devil Wears Prada. The fictional movie explores real-world topics and issues, such as the slow decline of print media. Also, it touches on the reality of corporate takeovers, the power of media, social media exposure, and the ramifications of today's public attention span. Other past characters also in the sequel include Nigel, played by Stanley Tucci, and Emily Charlton, played by Emily Blunt. Nigel and Miranda reprise their roles; however, everyone else has different working lives. Without giving much of the movie away, the different working lives intertwine. The saying "it's who you know, not what you know" is very true in this movie.
Many stars have cameo appearances in the film, as well as a few sports stars, if you look closely. Lady Gaga plays her fictional self and has a brief runway concert. Other actors include Justin Theroux as Benji Barnes, Kenneth Branagh as Stuart, and Lucy Liu as Sasha. The movie has been successful, grossing $433 million worldwide on a $100 million budget.
I found The Devil Wears Prada 2 movie more serious than a comedy. While it did have its funny moments, the serious, dramatic tone took over. The movie's portrayal and decline of journalism really grabbed my attention, especially as I write this review. In addition, I recommend watching the original The Devil Wears Prada to become familiar with the characters. You will see a few throwback moments from the first, which will only make sense if you watch it first. All the actors looked stunning and showed very little aging compared to the original.
I'm not up on the fashion industry, but if the movie is any indication, it's all about attention to detail, drama, competition, and money. If you see it, let me know what you think. I'll give it 4 out of 5 Hoots.
