Cherryville, NC (WNN) - The Is God Is movie, released on Friday, May 15th, is an R-rated mystery thriller based on a play. Two sisters are given the task of killing their father in revenge for their mother. I made a mistake thinking it was a comedy, but it sure wasn't, even though people were laughing in the theater. The Orion Pictures movie seemed more like a Quentin Tarantino bloodbath than anything else. It was Aleshea Harris' directorial debut, adapted from her original 2018 play. The storyline was good, but the continuity needed some work. The actors did a superb job throughout, as did the makeup/prosthetic design team.
The twin sisters, Racine and Anaia, are played by Kara Young and Mallori Johnson, who suffered a tragic fire along with their mother, Ruby, played by Vivica A. Fox. The fire's aftermath was dramatic, and the scarring left behind was both physical and emotional. The main plot is revenge against Harry, the father, played by Sterling K. Brown, who caused it all. It's a story of sisterly love, but the rollercoaster along the way is a tense, bloody ride. And who is "God" in the movie? No spoilers here, watch it, and you'll find out for yourself.
I went in blind for this movie and didn't know anything about it. Reminder, it's not a comedy. I'm sure it will win some awards and be deserving in some aspects. If you see Is God Is, let me know what you think. I'll give it 3.5 out of 5 Hoots.
