Cherryville, NC (WNN)—Wise Electric Control Inc. and Wise Real Estate Inc. have released information on a new Waffle House restaurant coming to Cherryville, NC.
The restaurant will be at the corner of Bud Black Road and Lincolnton Highway (Highway 150), currently 109 Bud Black Rd, next to Wal-Mart. The restaurant will be the standard Waffle House footprint, consisting of approximately 1,840 square feet on .8 acres with road access from Bud Black Road and Lincolnton Highway for easy access.
Officials at Wise Electric Control Inc. and Wise Real Estate Inc. stated that Waffle House had been on their radar for several years to bring the restaurant to Cherryville. President of both corporations, Rusty Wise, said, "We've been in contact with Waffle House for several years and wanted to make this deal work. It's in a prime location, and they've been great to work with thus far. It will be the first 24/7 sit-down restaurant in Cherryville that I know of. You can't get a cup of coffee or food right now in Cherryville at 2 am. Everything is closed, we want to give area residents and visitors that option to eat 24/7".
Waffle House was the 1955 creation of Joe Rogers Sr. and Tom Forkner of Avondale Estates, Georgia. They decided to open a 24-hour restaurant for friends and neighbors where you could see all the workers and guests across the counter. The first location is still there, which is now a museum. Waffle House is privately family-owned; there are no publicly available shares of stock or franchises. Current ownership is WH Capital, L.L.C., with majority owner Joe Rogers Jr., the son of co-founder Joe Rogers Sr. However, Waffle House employees can own or be rewarded with Waffle House stocks.
Waffle House has over 1,900 locations in 25 states, all open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Its headquarters are in Norcross, Ga.
In meteorology or disaster event status, there is the "Waffle House Index". Basically, it is a measure of an event's severity in the area. If Waffle House closes, you know it will get bad in the area. If Waffle House opens quickly, then the severity is less. If Waffle House stays closed after the event, the area may have been hard hit. One agency that looks at Waffle House during events is FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency). It's the agency's "unofficial metric" to gauge their response.
In July 2025, Waffle House acquired the location from Wise Electric Control Inc. in Cherryville. Currently, Waffle House is voluntarily annexing into the City of Cherryville, with the process starting at the next City Council meeting on Monday, August 11th, 2025, at 6 pm. A construction start or completion date has yet to be determined.
Wise Electric Control Inc., along with other electrical business entities such as Mister Sparky, has been in business since 1988. Wise Real Estate Inc., which provides commercial real estate services, was formed in 2005. Both are headquartered in Cherryville, NC, and are privately family-owned by Rusty Wise, President.
