Gaston County, NC (WNN)—Gaston County Emergency Management and Fire Services issued a press release on October 7th, 2024, urging residents to start the FEMA registration process for Tropical Storm Helene. Gaston County is one of 25 North Carolina counties approved for the federal disaster declaration.
Even though the damage may be minimal for some residents in Gaston County, they are still encouraged to apply. Residents can apply if they do not have insurance to cover damages or are uninsured.
FEMA applicants will receive an eligibility letter with the decision and amount via mail and instructions on the following steps.
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) offers low-interest disaster loans for homeowners, renters, businesses, and nonprofit organizations to cover losses not fully compensated by insurance and other sources. You can apply online at SBA.gov/disaster. For information and application forms for disaster loans, you can also call the SBA’s Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955.
In the press release, the Gaston County Office of Emergency Management and Fire Services urges residents to obtain information about Helene relief from reliable sources, such as local, state, and federal government accounts, to avoid sharing misinformation.
