Residents With Helene Damage Encouraged To Start The FEMA Registration Process

Gaston County, NC (WNN)—Gaston County Emergency Management and Fire Services issued a press release on October 7th, 2024, urging residents to start the FEMA registration process for Tropical Storm Helene. Gaston County is one of 25 North Carolina counties approved for the federal disaster declaration.

Even though the damage may be minimal for some residents in Gaston County, they are still encouraged to apply. Residents can apply if they do not have insurance to cover damages or are uninsured.

Here are the ways to apply to FEMA:

Online at DisasterAssistance.Gov
Online through the FEMA app
Call 800-621-3362, 711 or Video Relay Service (VRS)
Apply in person at a designated Disaster Recovery Center

Your address with zip code (damaged property)
Condition of your damaged home
Insurance information, if available
Social Security number
Contact Phone number
Address where you can get mail or email address to receive electronic notifications

FEMA applicants will receive an eligibility letter with the decision and amount via mail and instructions on the following steps.

SBA Loans Available

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) offers low-interest disaster loans for homeowners, renters, businesses, and nonprofit organizations to cover losses not fully compensated by insurance and other sources. You can apply online at SBA.gov/disaster. For information and application forms for disaster loans, you can also call the SBA’s Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955.
