Boone, NC (WNN) - What seemed like a regular graduation ceremony on Thursday, May 7, 2026, turned into a special moment for country music fans. Former Appalachian State University student and country music singer Luke Combs received an honorary degree in music in recognition of his successful music career based in Nashville, TN.
Combs has shared at multiple concerts that while attending App State, he performed at local venues around Boone while pursuing his studies. In 2012, he dropped out to pursue country music full-time.
Since then, Combs has released six studio albums, with his latest, The Way I Am, released on March 20, 2026.
