Lady Ironmen Soccer Wins 3 Straight, Ironmen Golf Team Finishes Third, and Ironmen Tennis Team Begins Playoffs

Cherryville, NC (WNN) - This week saw the end of the regular season and the beginning of playoffs for high school Spring sports. The Lady Ironmen had a great week, winning three matches to extend their winning streak to four. The golf team continued to perform strongly as the regular season concluded. The tennis team began the team portion of the playoffs and will now await the individual portion.

Lady Ironmen Soccer

The girls finished the regular season with convincing victories. As the season concluded, Emily Allen secured her spot in Lady Ironmen history. The senior goalkeeper is ranked 4th nationally with 327 saves for the season. She is 3rd in North Carolina, 3rd in the NCHSAA, 1st in NC Division 2A, and 1st in Southern Piedmont 2A/3A/4A Conference. She is averaging 14.9 saves per match. Cherryville finished out the regular season with matches against Hunter Huss, Ashbrook, and Bessemer City.

Hunter Huss at Cherryville (April 27, 2026): Three players were recognized and honored on senior night. Emily Allen, Kate Bookout, and played their final regular-season match in Rudisill Stadium. The seniors, along with the rest of the team, enjoyed a 7-0 shutout of the visiting Lady Huskies. Fourteen minutes into the match, Cherryville went up 2-0; by halftime, they led 5-0. They added two more goals during the second half. Laney Spangler and Emily Allen split time as goaltenders during the match. Spangler had 8 saves, and Allen made 6 saves while scoring 1 goal and 2 points on 1 shot. Kate Bookout led the scoring with 3 goals, 6 points, and took 3 shots. Mallie Emerson scored 1 goal, 2 points, on 1 shot, Kaydence Ellis scored 1 goal, 2 points, on 2 shots, Gracie Adkins scored 1 goal, 2 points, on 2 shots, and Eleanor Sermersheim and Caidance Dellinger each took one shot.

Cherryville at Ashbrook (April 30, 2026): The Lady Green Wave fell to the Lady Ironmen 3-0 in Gastonia, NC. Leading the way for Cherryville was Gracie Adkins, as she scored 2 goals, 4 points, and took 6 shots. Kate Bookout scored the other goal, 2 points, and took 4 shots. Emily Allen made 6 saves and allowed 0 goals against. Other players who took shots were Kaydence Ellis 8, Caidance Dellinger 5, Mallie Emerson 2, Mackenzie Johnson 1, and Eleanor Sermersheim 1. Shevinique Barnes led Ashbrook with 16 saves, 3 goals against, and 2 attempted shots. Alexa Ceballos made 15 steals, and Nereida Hernandez made 10 steals. Karelyn Lopez attempted 2 shots, and Abigail Felix 1 shot.

Cherryville at Bessemer City (May 1, 2026): The Lady Ironmen played their regular-season finale on the road against rival Bessemer City. Cherryville convincingly defeated the Lady Yellow Jackets with a 10-1 victory. The Lady Ironmen won 8 of their 9 victories by shutouts. Three Cherryville players scored 3 goals. Kate Bookout scored 3 goals, 6 points, and took 3 shots. Kaydence Ellis scored 3 goals, 6 points, and took 6 shots. Gracie Adkins scored 3 goals, 6 points, while attempting 12 shots. Caidance Dellinger scored the other goal, 2 points, and took 2 shots. Eleanor Sermersheim attempted 2 shots, and Mallie Emerson attempted 1 shot as well. Emily Allen made 3 saves and gave up 1 goal. Cherryville’s record improved to 9-12-1.

Ironmen Golf

The Cherryville golf team continued its consistently strong performances as it closed out the season. They played Deerbrook Golf Course on April 20. This was an 18-hole match. Colton Robinson shot a great game with a score of 3 over par on one of the 9-hole segments. Freshman Will Skibo had his best round of the season as he shot 4 over. Isaiah Costner also had his best round, going 6 over. The Ironmen were home on April 27 as they hosted a match at the Cherryville Golf and Country Club. They won this match over Bessemer City, West Lincoln, and Lincolnton. The last regular season match was on April 28 at Lincoln Country Club. Colten Robinson turned in another fine performance as he shot 40 in 9 holes. Cherryville finished the season in third place in the nine-team Southern Piedmont 2A/3A/4A Conference. Colten Robinson earned all-conference honors and will represent the Ironmen at the 2A West Regionals at Grassy Creek Country Club in Spruce Pine, NC, on May 4.

As of Monday, May 4th, Colton Robinson finished 4th at the 2A NCHSAA Western Regional, per the NCHSAA results.  Robinson will play in the State Golf Championships on May 11 and May 12.

Cherryville began the team portion of the playoffs this week. They had a first-round bye in the dual teams bracket. On April 29, the Ironmen hosted Christ the King in the second round at Donna Lavery Tennis Courts in Cherryville, NC. Christ the King eliminated Cherryville by a score of 6-3. Next up will be the individual portion of the playoffs at the 1A/2A West Regionals with all six starters competing. Cole Kelly and Trevor McSwain will compete in singles matches, and the teams of Steven Bell and Gage Johnson, as well as Hunter Griffin and Gabriel Stergiou, will compete in doubles matches.
