Cherryville, NC (WNN) - The Cherryville soccer and tennis teams each broke even this week, losing one and winning one. The soccer team remains competitive in each match, and the tennis team continues its strong season. The golf match scheduled for the Lincoln Country Club was cancelled. No information is currently available on whether it will be rescheduled.
Cherryville at Stuart Carmer March 18, 2026:
The Lady Ironmen played a competitive match, but in the end came up just a little short. Stuart W. Cramer won 3-2. Emily Allen had quite the workout, making 16 saves and allowing 3 goals. She also had 1 penalty kick save and 1 penalty kick against. Gracie Adkins attempted 7 shots and scored 1 goal and 2 points. Kate Bookout attempted 6 shots and scored 1 goal and 2 points. Kaydence Ellis attempted 2 shots. There were no stats available for the Lady Storm.
Cherryville at Shelby, March 19, 2026:
This contest was a makeup of an event originally postponed due to weather conditions. The Lady Ironmen got back on the winning track with a 3-0 shutout of the Shelby Lady Golden Lions. This was also Cherryville's first conference win, bringing them to 3-6 overall and 1-6 in conference play. Shelby dropped to 1-6-1 overall and 1-4 in the conference. Kate Bookout led by scoring 2 goals and 4 points, scoring on both of her shots. Gracie Adkins scored 1 goal and 2 points off 6 shots. Kaydence Ellis attempted 3 shots, and Laney Spangler, Caidence Dellinger, and Eleanor Serersheim each took one shot. Goalkeeper Emily Allen once again had a busy night, saving 12 attempts and giving up 0 goals against. The Lady Ironmen will host a conference match on March 24 at 6 pm against Bessemer City. They will again be at home on March 27, also at 6 pm, taking on West Lincoln.
Cherryville at Highland Tech March 17, 2026:
The luck of the Irish did not shine on the Ironmen as they played at Highland Tech on St. Patrick's Day, March 17. The Rams shut out the normally productive Cherryville squad 9-0. The loss dropped Cherryville to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. In singles competition, Grayson Rose (HT) defeated Steven Bell 6-0 and 6-0. Max Whitesides (HT) defeated Cole Kelly 6-1 and 6-0. Elijah Daugherty (HT) defeated Gage Johnson 7-5, 4-6, and 0-0(10-4). Brady Hubert (HT) defeated Hunter Griffin 6-1 and 6-0. Porter Ratchford (HT) defeated Gabriel Stergiou 6-4 and 6-0. Thomas Efird (HT) defeated Trevor McSwain 6-3 and 6-3. In team doubles, Porter Ratchford and Grayson Rose defeated Steven Bell and Gage Johnson 8-5. Brady Hubert and Max Whitesides defeated Cole Kelly and Hunter Griffin 8-1. Andrei Barbu and Elijah Daughtery defeated Gabriel Stergiou 8-6.
Cherryville at Shelby, March 19, 2026:
The Ironmen improved their record to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in conference competition by defeating the Golden Lions 8-1. No opponent names were provided for Shelby. In singles play, Steven Bell won 3-6, 6-1, and 0-0(10-3). Cole Kelly won 6-0 and 6-0. Gage Johnson won 6-2 and 6-1. Hunter Griffin picked up a 6-0 and 6-1 victory. Gabriel Stergiou came out on top 6-1 and 6-2. Trevor McSwain was victorious with scores of 6-0 and 6-1. In doubles, Steven Bell and Gage Johnson won 8-6. Hunter Griffin and Gabriel Stergiou won 8-0. Shelby defeated Johah Harrison and Dominic Stergiou 8-5. Next up for the Ironmen will be a home match against West Lincoln on March 26 at 4 pm.
