Kings Mountain, NC (WNN) - The City of Kings Mountain Water Resources Department is facing an increasingly strained staffing situation following the resignation of Water Resources Director William Nash, who stepped down after just seven months in the role.
Nash's resignation places additional pressure on an already understaffed department responsible for maintaining safe drinking water. Last month, citizens raised concerns at the Water Quality Meeting (linked here) held at Kings Mountain Town Hall. During that meeting, a staffing shortage in the Water Resources Department was acknowledged.
With the director's last day on April 17, 2026, only a few positions within the department remain filled, resulting in a lack of water management.
According to the City of Kings Mountain, the Water Resources Department is separated into five divisions: Administration, Water Treatment, Maintenance, Wastewater, and Pump/Collection Systems. Several of these divisions are currently operating without full leadership or staff support.

Prior to Nash accepting the Water Resources Director role in September of 2025, former director Ricky Duncan had served in the role since 2016.
As the city works to address ongoing water quality concerns, the lack of personnel raises questions about the department's capacity to respond effectively to water issues.
