Thanksgiving limited the number of athletic events scheduled during the holiday-shortened week. That fact did not limit the success of the Ironmen teams. The Winter teams are continuing the same type of success as the Fall teams demonstrated. There was only one night of basketball and one day of wrestling this week. The coming week will consist of a busier schedule.

Nixon Gym was the setting for the Ironmen’s most dominating performance of the season on November 25th. This was exactly the type of game the guys needed heading into conference play that begins in early December. On this night, it was all Cherryville. The team scored a season high in a 72-34 clipping of the Eagles from Pinnacle Classical Academy. The 3-1 Ironmen and Eagles both came out a bit sluggish, but soon Cherryville began to get rebounds and turnovers, which jump-started their offense. Once CHS started rolling, they quickly found their zone and never looked back. As dominant as the offense was, the defense matched their intensity, holding Eagles’ leading scorer Brayden Gentry to just 7 points. Gentry came into the game averaging 12.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. No Pinnacle player scored in double digits; Gentry with 7 and Sage Ross with 8 came the closest.
The Ironmen held a 43-19 halftime lead, capped off as Trevor Dalton drained a long three-pointer as the first half buzzer sounded. Another highlight, which electrified the crowd, came in the third period as Darius Pullen finished a one-on-one fast break with a dunk. It was a great night for Darius as he led all scorers with 15 points. During the night, Cherryville played with dominance and fun, spreading the scoring around as ten players put points on the board. Leading the way was Darius Pullen with 15, followed by Paxton Pruett with 14, and Cole Kelly adding 12, rounding out the double-digit scorers. Other players in the scoring column for the Ironmen were Isaiah Champion with 9, Elijah Proctor 8, Chandler Wooten 4, Trevor Dalton 3, Karter Willis 3, Narian Hopper 2, and Talon Dalton 1 point.

The Lady Ironmen were not as successful in their efforts. They dropped to 1-3 as the Pinnacle Eagles defeated the Cherryville ladies, 49-36. Some technical difficulties prevented the submission of statistics for Cherryville. Leading the way for Pinnacle was Nylah Littlejohn with 8 points and 3 steals. Adriana Mullinax scored 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Taylor Scota added 11 points. Both the Ironmen and Lady Ironmen will play their first conference game of the season on Tuesday, December 2nd, at West Lincoln.
